| This has to be a personal best. Well, I've finished the mortgage loan paperwork and now I'm just waiting to hear about how much I qualify for before I put in any offers. Testing on Monday went smoothly. We had a smaller group of incoming students--about 69, I think. They seemed really sweet and I'm looking forward to getting to know them. Tuesday I was supposed to do Brouwers with someone, but that didn't happen. Today was just staff meeting, meeting with my mortgage lender and preparing syllabi and course materials for the first day of classes tomorrow. I have that super-nervous socially anxious feeling I always get at the beginning of the quarter. Tomorrow and Friday I work. Saturday is a dinner party for a friend's b-day. I'm a little overwhelmed by the pace of things now, and getting out of vacation mode. I'm also just confused and overwhelmed by life in general. I think the prospect of buying a condo and putting myself in that much debt (and committing to living in Seattle for a number of years) has got me thinking about so many aspects of my life. I've been meditating more regularly for clarity, but really I just want to hide under a blanket and not think about any of this.

| I don't have much to say, but some folks seem to think making a new year post is obligatory...so........
I don't make resolutions on New Year's. I make them daily/weekly/monthly or more often not at all so I can't feel guilty when I don't follow through on them. If I did make resolutions, they would probably involve trying to figure out the work/life balance and seeing my friends more often. I'm still working on that. One step in that is moving back to the west side, I hope by March. It still needs to be within an hour's bus ride to work at BCC, so most likely West Seattle or Cap Hill. If I get really impulsive, I may just take off somewhere (Florida, Greece, Oz....?) after spring quarter (end of March). I'll let you guys know if that happens.
NYE was a blast. It was the first party I've been to in quite a while where I enjoyed myself for the majority of the time AND didn't take out a book or my ipod.
On New Year's Day I got to see a taping of NPR's "Says You" which was most awesome, despite the fact that I was running on less than five hours of sleep and the remnants of the boozamahol.
Yesterday was Pho with a bunch of the peeps that moved back to the East coast, followed by rock band.
Today, I'm heading down to the airport to meet a wee French girl and take her to lunch and hang out with her until her ride/person with keys to her place arrives this evening.

| Survived the first day of the quarter. I like my students/classes so far. My level 1 Reading class is adorable. Next week, I get to sub for my friend Scott, so I get to teach English 101. Wow. My first non-ESL class at BCC...I feel like a real English prof now. hehehe. Now if only they would hit me with some lit classes.

| I'm back from Vegas! I didn't lose *too* much. Stayed at the Luxor, played a lot of slots, saw a couple of shows. Yay. Saw Ka. That was really, really cool!

| Today I debated between going to PAX and going to Bumbershoot and ended up doing neither. Le sigh. Oh well. I stayed home and finished packing for Vegas. Now I'm watching Persepolis on DVD. :D I have the house to myself, since the roomie, her son and her sister are down at a wedding in Portland.

| I don't post on this nearly often enough. I have less than a month left of my summer vacation. I hope to see more of you (you folks who would be reading this) before going back to teaching fall quarter, if any of you remember what I look like. :) I really am trying to figure out how to have a life while I'm teaching, but until I have it worked out, I've got to make the most of these breaks.
I'm going to Vegas on Sunday, but I'll be back on Thursday.
Not much to report here. I've been enjoying the summer weather and the not-so-summery weather. Walking/jogging most days and slowly even getting back into the bellydancing....which is going to take awhile.
